Fausto by Estanislao Del Campo – illustrated by Florencio Molina Campos

09/28/2009

For a stretch of a few years after high school I moved to South America and lived in the northern region of Argentina. Salta, Tucuman and Jujuy were my stomping grounds and empanadas, alfajores and mirinda manzana were staples in my diet. While in Argentina I was obsessed with their art, specifically Florencio Molina Campos. I won’t go too much into Molina Campos now but here are just a few things to consider… he did paintings for the Alpargatas calenders in Argentina and then in the United States for Minneapolis Moline Power Implement Co. He also spent some time working for Disney. I have a few of the calenders from the 40′s and some from the Min-Moline days that I’ll post sooner or later.

The Fausto book that I have below is a pretty rare second edition. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Molina Campos caught a lot of flack for depicting horses not touching the ground when running. Through his observations he noticed that there is a moment when they don't touch the ground.
